45391 – Instructions Body

Absolutely! Here are step-by-step instructions on how to collect your blood sample for the GlycanAge test, based on official guidance:

GlycanAge Sample Collection Instructions

What’s in Your Test Kit

Your GlycanAge kit should include:

  • 2 sterile alcohol prep pads
  • 3 lancets
  • 1 blood collection card with desiccant
  • 2 adhesive bandages
  • 1 plastic bag with desiccant
  • 1 return envelope

Preparation

  1. Read the “Limitations & Special Considerations” section in your instructions first.
  2. Avoid excessive alcohol or high-fat meals for at least 8 hours before collecting your sample—this helps ensure better sample quality.
  3. Stay well-hydrated and keep warm (e.g., have a hot shower or do jumping jacks) to promote better blood flow.
  4. Lay out everything on a clean, flat, and dry surface. Avoid touching the filter paper on the blood collection card. Have a clean tissue and plaster (bandage) nearby.

Step-by-Step Collection

  1. Wash and Dry Hands
Wash your hands with soap and water, then dry thoroughly. Prepare a bandage and tissue.
  2. Warm and Clean the Finger
Rub your hands together for 20–30 seconds to warm them. Wipe the chosen finger (middle or ring finger recommended) with an alcohol swab and let it air-dry.
  3. Prick the Finger
Twist off the lancet cap and press it firmly against the outer center of your fingertip. A drop of blood should appear soon.
  4. Apply Blood to the Card
Hold your finger above the collection card and let a drop fall into each circle—don’t let your finger touch the paper. Make sure all four circles are completely filled. If blood flow stops, wait for another large drop or use another lancet. Avoid “milking” the finger, as it causes clotting and slows bleeding.
  5. Dry the Sample
Let the collection card air-dry for 2 hours in a well-ventilated spot.
  6. Label the Card
Write the date of sample collection underneath your unique GlycanAge code on the inside of the card.
  7. Package and Send
Place the dried card and desiccant into the provided plastic bag, then into the return envelope. If possible, mail it the same day—ideally via any red post box (or through your local post office if you’re outside the UK). If same-day mailing isn’t possible, refrigeration is recommended until you can send it.
